Langhorn Thornton

Langhorn was born 18 August 1828 in Pollington, and baptised 7 September 1828 at Snaith. He was a canal labourer working on the Aire & Calder and living at one of the Bridge Houses in Heck.

He married Susanna Simpson (born 1829 in Darrington) 9 September 1850 at Darrington. They had 8 children:

• William Thornton born 1849
• John Thornton born 1851
• Mary Thornton born 1854 - in 1881 was an unmarried domestic servant at Heck Hall, died in 1934
• James Thornton born 1855
• Joseph Thornton born 1859 married Elizabeth Durham at Snaith in 1880
• Ann Thornton born 1860  married James Bateman at Heck in 1886
• Miles Thornton born 1868
• Charles Thornton born 1873

Langhorn drowned in the Aire & Calder on 21 May 1892, Susanna died a few months later. They are buried in Hensall chiurchyard.
