The coffee bar was set up in the gymnasium of the Bluecoats School (in the left wing of the building photographed above). It was necessary to move all the required furniture down from the the first floor each time we held Session. This was quite a chore, particularly the tables. The coffee and other refreshments were prepared and sold from a tiny "kitchen" just off the main room of the gymnasium. Most nights we had large numbers of youngsters coming in to hear the band and the good news of Jesus Christ.

The Bluecoats School was a very apt place
for Christian witness and outreach as it was the first charity school built
outside London by the Society for the Propagation of Christian Knowledge.
SPCK still exists
today of course, and maintained a bookshop in nearby St. Werburgh Street.
The building is now used as part of the new Chester University.
Can you help ? If you remember the Sunday night "Session" please let me know and tell us of some of your recollections of those times 40years ago in Chester.
