The club is open approximately 40 weeks each year. It closes for 2/3 weeks at Christmas, 1 week each at February and October half-terms, Easter & Spring Bank Holiday and 6 weeks in the summer. It is also closed on May Day. Parents are advised of precise dates when appropriate.Approximately 5 or 6 times a year the swimming lesson is used for the children to attempt their next distance badges (beginners trying for 5 or 10 metres may attempt these more often, at the coach’s discretion). Distances must be covered without any contact with the pool sides, ends, floor or ropes! Distances greater than 25m must be swum in a recognised stroke and 100m distance must be achieved in each of front crawl, back crawl and breast stroke before progressing to the 200m award. Distance badges when achieved are included in the subscription fee, the certificate matching the badge will be written for the following week. Both are issued by the Door Registration person. Each May & November all classes practise for various skills badges. These badges are held until our Parents’ Evenings (July & January) and presented then. The cost of one award per term is included into the subscription fees. Any older swimmers who show the necessary commitment and interest in coaching are encouraged to become trainee coaches. Non-swimmers are assisted in the water by some of our High School Swimmers, during their lesson. The ‘deep end’ groups in non-swimmer classes, and all other classes are timed at the end of each 6 month session. The faster swimmers move up a class at the start of the next 6 month session. All classes, except the non-swimmers, are timed again in the first week of the new class so they can be grouped for their lesson. If anyone has a verruca, a verruca sock should be worn. It would help the coaches if all children were encouraged to use the toilet, blow their noses & wash off the mud from the afternoon’s football game BEFORE they enter the pool!! We do not allow parents to watch the swimming lessons. However, twice a year (July & January) we hold Parents’ Evenings when parents, family & friends are invited to see the progress made. Badges are presented to the swimmers, as well as a club award to one child in each class based on good attendance, behaviour and improvement. The Club takes new members twice a year, in February & September, vacancies permitting. Membership & first subs are paid on joining. Thereafter, Club membership is due by Feb 1st & subs are due by Feb 1st & Sept 1st (collected from current members in January & July).
