Personal Statement
I became involved in politics because of my values, belief and vision for how I want to see the country run. I came from quite an average family background in the north west of England. A good state school system enabled me to go to university, get a doctorate and to have a professional career, quite unlike anything my family had ever been able to do before. I’m passionate about the idea that everybody should have the opportunity to get on as a result of their capabilities, rather than the wealth or position of the family that they are born into. I also feel very strongly indeed that there should be a good quality health service available to everybody in the country, regardless of financial circumstance. If I were elected as MP for Harrogate & Knaresborough, I would fight for all aspects of social justice.
The Labour Party has made good progress in the last 8 years in reversing 18 years of under-investment in public services by the Tories. For more information on Labour policies and achievements, see the Labour Party website.
