Owing to increasing amounts of spam email (plus virus/worm infected email from unexpected sources), I've taken severe action about sites from whom I have apparently received such unwanted junk. Basically, if I receive spam email or malware-infected mail from unexpected places, I simply immediately put the whole of the apparent source and reply-to domains in a bounce list, so future mail from those sites is never seen here. This does of course mean that some "inncocent" sites whose addresses have been forged will also appear on the following list and be blocked -- sorry, but life's tough. Any mail received via open mail relays (these are badly set up machines which can be, and are, used by spammers: they need fixing!) (see eg www.ordb.org, etc) is also rejected automatically. Particular known senders on any of the following sites will be accepted, of course, so if you're on one of the sites listed below, and have a legitimate reason to be emailing my family, please let me know (not by email from one of these sites, of course!) and I'll update the mail filters to let you through.
In addition, the networks of ISPs known to have sent spam here are completely firewalled off from this system, so they will not even be able to "see" my real mail server. They will just end up connected to a dummy mail server that wastes a lot of system resources at the sender. This means genuine mail from such a network will probably queue for three days or so, then be returned to sender. Sorry, no exceptions here! Maybe I'll show the full list of such networks one day - but at the time of writing it runs to about 10,000 networks which are blocked, growing at around 30 to 60 per day, every day. Goes to show how little people seem to care about security!
Again, spam is increasingly being sent as images (typically gif) rather than text; this is to avoid key-word detection systems. Sorry - but I've now taken to rejecting email that contains image files (in particular gif files) - so if you're sending your company logo as an image, I suggest you (a) reconsider whether you need to waste other people's resources in this way, and then (b) if you're really sure you need to, contact me and I'll add you to an exception list. If you really need to send the occsional image, I suggest sending a zip file or similar.
Please note that html-formatted email may not be accepted either, for security reasons. Please be sure only to send plain text messages; anything requiring special formatting must be sent as an attachment. Also, to help prevent viruses and trojans coming in, incoming mail is scanned for malware, and if it appears to be infected with a virus or the like it will be junked and lost, and not seen here at all (sorry, it's not reasonable to send a bounce message here, because so many viruses and worms fake the sender address).
I emphasize that the following is given as a list of sender domains blocked from reception at this site. It is not intended to be a definitive list of spam producers. The list is in alphabetical order but sorted right to left by domain component, so for example z.com would appear before a.net.
The following networks are completely firewalled off:
#
#############################################
# deprecated - use /var/spaminfo/manual-blacklist
#
# Clear 'em out of here when a year or so old
#
############################################
# Manually entered blocked sites. The entire subnet for the offender is
# blocked when suspicious signs are seen. Doesn't mean the entire
# block is necessarily problematic - but in this case it's much less
# hassle to chuck bath water and baby out together. Email me (info on
# my web site) if there's a problem for a legitimate user. IP blocks do
# change owner occasionally.
