Training for Health Care Staff
T'ai Chi and Chi Kung are becoming better known for their potential to help in health care programmes. Increasingly there are studies being made that show that T'ai chi is useful in many area including Falls and Balance; COPD; Diabetes and Multiple Sclerosis.
Because of this there is an increasing demand for training in T'ai Chi for health care professionals, especially those involved in running physical exercise sessions for their clients.
Tutor Mike Tabrett has trained health care staff in various areas of concern including COPD, elderly and balance and learning disabilities

How T'ai Chi Can Be Used?

There are several ways that T'ai Chi may be useful to health care professionals:

By helping increase their own awareness of posture and movement - which can then be passed on to their clients.
By casting a fresh perspective on established practises to broaden their scope and increase effectiveness.
By offering alternative treatments where appropriate.

These goals can be achieved through targeted training appropriate to the needs of the particular group.

How Can T'ai Chi Be Learnt?

Traditionally of course T'ai Chi is learnt over a long period of time and those who teach do so after several years practise. However, this may not be convenient for busy health care staff who need to be able to show results for the training they embark upon. In these circumstances it is possible to target certain aspects of T'ai Chi that are considered appropriate to the group in question.
A variety of formats are available to develop this:

A course of short sessions progressing over an agreed period of time.
Individual day seminars focusing of basic principles that can be worked with and integrated in to existing practises.
A series of day seminars to teach the basic movements of a set (usually the 'Integrated Chi Kung' set which is a mixture of standing and specially adapted seated exercises) that can be taught to the targeted group.

This tanning is suitable for a variety of staff, especially those involved in offering physical treatments such as Phsyio and Occupational Therapists and their assistants.
