Faradena Afifi
I have been training in various martial arts on and off since 1987. I learnt T'ai Chi Chuan (and a few others at the same time!) in 1995 until 1997 whilst at Leeds University, with tutors including Ed Hines and Colin and Gaynel Hamilton whilst also studying Yokiyusan Kempo.
I restarted T'ai Chi Chuan in 2002 having spent 3 years nursing a shoulder injury from training far too hard and decided to do something more healthy. I began training with Mike and Grey Heron Internal Arts in 2003 after being recommended them by the University of Cambridge T'ai Chi Society.
I have been assisting in beginner classes since 2004 and was made an authorised instructor in 2005. I am a member of the `T'ai Chi and Chi Kung Forum for Health' and am an instructor member of the Tai Chi Union for Great Britain. I am currently studying the Long Sword, Broad Sword and the Chen Family Lao Jia; in addition I study aspects of Cheng man Ching style with Master Ch'ng who teaches in Chelmsford, a practitioner of many years experience. I also train with Ollie Batts and Julie Gabriel of the `Cambridge Academy of Martial Arts'. I am an authorised instructor to intermediates in Yokiyusan Kempo (a Japanese weapons art) which I have been learning since 1995 and which I am willing to teach to interested students.
When I am not doing martial arts, I work as a support worker for people with physical or learning disabilities and sometimes get to do Tai Chi, massage or music with them, which I enjoy a lot.
