BEGINNERS CLASSES
To help you choose an appropriate class, on this page you will find descriptions of the different types of classes available for Beginners.
T'AI CHI CHUAN FORM CLASSES
These offer the full system including a variety of Chi Kung exercises and a T'ai chi form. Depending on the class there may be different forms taught. These include:
24 Step Form a Yang family style sequence that lasts about 8 minutes at average speed. This form is a good introduction to all aspects of the art and is commonly practised for health, meditation and martial aspects. Classes are sometimes divided in to 'Part 1' or 'Part 2' to indicate where the class has progressed to in the form. New members are welcome at any time but should realise that in Part 2 classes the emphasis is on the second half of the form. There may also (depending on the length of the course and available of time) an introduction to sensitivity partnerwork known as push hands and sticky hands and martial applications taught. Class Times
10 Step Form Even shorter than the 24 Step this adaptable form can be learnt as a standing or chair based sequence. It is generally taught in shorter classes or short courses and workshops.
Chen style Old Frame (Lao Jia) a Chen family form regarded by many as the original T'ai Chi form . It tends towards stronger postures with some faster, more explosive movements with the full sequence totaling 74 moves. Classes include 'Silk Reeling' exercises, push hands and martial applications. Class times
Longer classes may also include sitting meditation.
These classes are open to all ages and types of people; if you have some form of special health need and wish to discuss integrating yourself in to the class please contact us.

CHI KUNG & T'AI CHI EXERCISE CLASSES
Ideal for those who have busy lives and can squeeze in an hour a week for themselves!
These classes focus on individual exercises and short sets of movements. The key difference between these and the T'ai Chi Chuan classes is that there is no work on a T'ai Chi form. The exercises we teach are suitable for beginners or more advanced practitioners and are drawn from a variety of Chi Kung sets including 8 Strands of the Brocade and the various T'ai Chi Chi Kung sets.
These classes are often a good starting point for new people, those who might find their training interrupted or people who simply are looking for a chance to relax and feel better without having to concern themselves with learning a sequence.
INTEGRATED CHI KUNG
These are mixed ability classes working with various combinations of standing and seated exercises in a way that both makes them a fascinating insight for regular practitioners and available to people with mobility problems, including wheelchair users and others with special health needs.
These classes allow people who might normally find a T'ai Chi or Chi Kung class difficult to attend to benefit from these practises
CLASSES FOR U3A
These classes are arranged through U3A Cambridge and are aimed at older students. They therefore at a slightly slower place, but include both T'ai Chi Chuan and Chi Kung, teaching the 24 Step Form over a 2 year period. Students will need to join U3A Cambridge which runs a wide range of courses for older people.

Do not worry if you have missed the beginning of a course. There is always lots of repetition and remember the best time to start is always now. New courses start every term, often a term is repeated before the class moves on to the second half. Please check with the college concerned to make sure that the class is not full.
For people who have completed a beginners course there are a range of classes available
