Hello and Welcome To My Webpage:

I have been Sea Fishing now for about 30 years, I live & fish between Redcar & Whitby on the North-East coast  uk.

I fish for Mackerel & Bass through the summer & go after the Cod in the winter.

My personal best is a 7½ lb Cod caught on Whitby's West pier using whole Squid on a 6/0 hook, ( Photo Below )

Below you can see some photographs of my gear & venues I fish, one or two are Dangerous to fish alone !!!

Whitby is a major fishing port and you can always book a trip on one of the many boats available.

I also like to fish South-Gare at Redcar's Tees port, this place has taken a few lives over the years so I do not fish it if the sea is too rough.

The rods & reels I use can be seen in one of the photos.

My main rod & reel is the Ron Thompson  Excessor 12ft & Penn 525 Super Mag Xtra + 18lb Maxima line for the Codling.

(Back-up reel is a 525GS + 18lb Maxima line )

For Mackerel & Bass I use a Shakespeare Royalty XL Spinning Rod 11ft 10-60gr spinning rod with a Okuma Interceptor 50 Pro reel Loaded with Berkley Whiplash Pro 20lb Braid, or a Shakespeare Ugly Stik Lite Spin 10ft 25-60gr with a Interceptor 50 Pro reel loaded with 8lb Maxima line.

When I can,  I go to Fishing meetings with other sea anglers from the north-east.

Whitby Meeting: 14/01.06.

Conditions not very good only Whiting & Flat fish caught.

Hartlepool Meeting on Steetley Pier: 28/01/06.

This time we had better conditions, But again only Whiting & Flat fish caught.

The Heugh, called locally as the "Huff".   ( Hartlepool )     Photo of the Lighthouse corner.

Thanks, Dave (monkeyhinger)

Steetley Pier in Hartlepool,  One of the best venues in the North-East.

Clean sand all round. ( Baits to use are all the usual ones )

Looking back towards the beach.

The Gates, ( as far as I know these are mostly open. )

  Map: How to get there.

Thanks to Dave ( Jarrow Viking )  for the photos.

Here's some more fishing marks around H/Pool,  Thanks to C.M for this pic.

Saltburn Pier. Clean Sand.  good for winter cod fishing,  high water fishing only.

Just right for Cod fishing.   ( Thanks for the pic PTJ )

Looking towards the end.

Looking towards the Ship Inn.

Best Bait:   Whole Squid, Rag & Lugworm, Mussels,  & Peeler Crab.

Saltburn Pier Now In Lights.

Boulby Cliff, "we climb down the rope". Some very good cod can be caught here. Rough ground.

When your at the bottom go to the Right that's where the Boiler-Hole is.

Directions how to get there:

On the A174 to Staithes, go half way down Boulby-Bank look for the Left turn.

Turn Left here.                     Go up here and turn Right when you reach the houses.

At the bottom turn Left.  Go to the end of this road & park up, ( Don't leave anything in your car that can be seen)

I park at the end.               Now walk along the path till you get to the end of the fence.

Now just go where the red line points.   Here is the rope,  Take care if the ground is wet it's a long way down !

and try to travel as light as possible, the climb back up is a killer. " This is NOT a place to go when it's dark !!!"  You might be better off walking round here from Staithes, But keep an eye on the tides.

Best Bait:   Whole Squid, Rag & Lugworm, Mussels, & Peeler Crab.

Staithes Village.   The Breakwaters.                             On The Rocks, Right hand side.

This is Cowbar.       Some nice Cod can be got here.  Park your car right at the end of this road.

Looking down from the cliff-top.

Best Bait:   Whole Squid, Rag & Lugworm, Mussels, & Peeler Crab. Rough Ground. (NB, Do not fish the Cowbar Jetty in rough seas at high tide ! )

Skinningrove Jetty Info.

Fishing on here can be very good at times, but always keep your wits about you & you Should be safe !!!

Skiningrove Jetty.  Can be good for mackerel and Cod.  Clean & rough ground.

Best Bait:   Whole Squid, Rag & Lugworm, Mussels, & Peeler Crab.

High Water.   Low Water.  Close Up of the Jetty end. Undermined !.

Car Park.    Please for your own sake don't leave items on view in your car when you park up.

This is a Panorama photo of the jetty end. ( notice the curve of the concrete ..... it should be a straight edge ) photo error ! This photo was made up of 26 photos and "Stitched" together using a program called Autostitch.

Please don't come down here alone at night if you have never fished the jetty before,  But at the same time don't let the photo's put you off coming this is a good venue although it's one place you must keep your eyes open at all times.

This is known as "Saltburn-Side" instead of going on the jetty walk through the gap to the beach, the best place to fish is walk right over and start fishing between the Pill-Box & as far as the rocks.

If you do come I hope you catch fish & have fun, I have been fishing this jetty for well over 30 years & only seen 4 or 5 accidents lets hope I don't see anymore.

This is how rough it can be ! "When it's this rough don't even THINK about fishing.

Kettleness   Info.

Kettleness is just outside Lythe near Whitby on the A174, getting there is down a small road with some very sharp corners so be careful, to get down to the beach you use a rope it's not for everyone but the fishing can be very good for some double figure cod.

Kettleness is Nice & peaceful, most of the time, "if you want to be alone"  Nice cod at times.

Best Bait:  Whole Squid, Rag & Lugworm, Mussels, & Peeler Crab.  Rigs 4/0 to 6/o pulley these will keep losses to a minimum.

Kettleness Panorama Photo.  (Runswick Bay in the background left hand side )

Park you car here, Never leave things in sight.     Go through this "Gate" keep to the left footpath.

Follow the path down.                                       This way to the rope.

"The Rope Down To The Beach"

Looking back up the cliff.       The Bottom.

South-Gare at Tees port Redcar, Can be good for mackerel and Cod.  Clean & rough ground.

"Why do people do this " !!!

Best Bait:   Whole Squid, Rag & Lugworm, Mussels, & Peeler Crab.

Go here to dig your Lug-Worms.

Runswick Bay.  A Good low-water place to fish, this place is ok when it's too rough every where else.

Best Bait:   Whole Squid, Rag & Lugworm, Mussels, & Peeler Crab.

A bit about my Camera.                    The World’s Smallest 10x Zoom Camera -The Olympus C-765 Ultra Zoom !

< Put your cursor over the pic,  or click one of these >

I also use this Lens adapter + UV & Cir-Polarizing Filters 52mm.

The Olympus C-765 Ultra Zoom is the world's smallest 10X optical zoom, 4.0 mega pixel digital camera (as of April 2004). It's an all-in-one camera solution for photographers who want the widest focal length range plus manual and automatic controls in a rugged and portable digital camera. The 10X optical zoom lens has a 35mm equivalent zoom range of 38mm to 380mm. Olympus introduced the first-ever Ultra Zoom digital camera four years ago, and has since produced increasingly robust and feature-rich models.

The C-765UZ features an improved image processor called TruePic TURBO, that improves image quality and delivers faster overall processing speeds. TruePic TURBO captures information from all 4.0 million pixels with pixel "micro- smoothing" that delivers clearer and more colour-accurate photos. The camera also utilizes PictBridge technology, which allows users to print directly to any PictBridge compatible printer without the use of a computer.

The C-765UZ offers a wide variety of record modes. In full Auto mode, the camera offers basic point-and-shoot simplicity. In Program AE mode, you can have the ease of Auto mode with the ability to change setting for Metering, ISO, etc. The A/S/M symbol on the mode dial gives you access to more advanced controls with Aperture priority, Shutter priority, and Manual exposure modes. The scene program modes provide fully automatic exposure adjustments for Portrait, Sports, Landscape, and Night Scenes. The special "My Mode" feature saves time by allowing users to assign frequently used settings to the mode dial for quick access.

Other controls include Digital ESP multi-pattern and spot metering; six white balance settings (Auto, 4 presets and Manual); multiple flash settings; selectable ISO speeds (Auto, 64, 100, 200, 400) and exposure compensation. The built-in flash offers 5 settings including slow synch to provide a wide range of options.

Camera Modes and Menus

Movie Mode: Accessed by turning the Mode dial to the movie camera symbol, Movie mode lets you capture movies (with sound) for as long as the memory card has available space. Shutter speed is set automatically, depending on light levels and the camera's ISO setting, but Olympus gives no specification for the shutter speed range. (The C-750 had a movie-mode shutter speed range of 1/30 - 1/8,000, but the C-765's manual makes no mention of shutter speed in movie mode.)

My Mode: Quickly configures the camera based on a (large) set of previously saved user-defined settings. Exposure variables such as aperture, shutter speed, white balance, etc. can all be saved. You can even save the lens zoom position. My Mode settings are made through the Setup menu, and the camera can accommodate four different sets.

A/S/M Mode: Accesses a range of manual and semi-manual exposure modes, including Aperture Priority, Shutter Priority, and Manual modes. Aperture and Shutter Priority modes give the user control over one exposure variable and the camera control over the other. Manual mode offers full user control over both aperture and shutter speed. Apertures range from f/2.8 to f/8, depending on the zoom setting. Shutter speeds range from 1/1,000 to 1 second, in both Aperture and Shutter Priority modes, and to 16 seconds in Manual mode.

Program Mode: Puts the camera in control of both aperture and shutter speed settings, while you control all other exposure variables, such as white balance, exposure compensation, etc.

Playback Mode: This mode lets you view previously captured images using the Arrow Pad to scroll through frames stored in memory. The Zoom Lever switches the image display to Index mode when moved in the wide angle direction, and when moved in the telephoto direction, enlarges a single image. While zoomed in on an image, the Arrow buttons can move the enlarged view around the full image area, allowing you to inspect all parts of it.

Auto Mode: This mode puts the camera in charge of all exposure variables, apart from zoom, flash mode, image size, and drive mode. This is a true "point & shoot" mode, requiring almost no input from the user apart from a press of the Shutter button.

Portrait Mode: Optimizes the camera for capturing portraits. A larger aperture is used, so that the subject will appear sharply focused in front of a slightly soft background.

Sports Mode: The camera's exposure system is biased toward faster shutter speeds to freeze action and moving subjects.

Landscape Mode: This mode is for capturing wide views of scenery, with both the foreground and background in focus. However, this mode also enhances any blue or green colours in the image, for more vibrant trees, water, and skies.

Night Scene Mode: This mode is best for capturing night portraits or night scenery, such as cityscapes. A slower shutter speed (as long as 4 seconds) lets you shoot under darker conditions.

C-765 Ultra Zoom Features:
10x zoom (38-380mm equivalent)
4 mega pixel CCD imager.
Combination metal and high-impact plastic design.
High-resolution Colour EVF viewfinder with 240,000 pixels.
1.8-inch colour TFT LCD monitor.
Built-in, multi mode flash.

I also have a spare Olympus C-50 zoom (5Mega Pixels)

Now for the Batteries,  I will only buy a camera that uses this type of battery " Lithium Lon".                                    The one's that use AA or AAA   I find they don't last too long !
