Coughton Court is a National Trust property situated about 3 miles N of Alcester. The home of the Throckmorton family since 1409, the date of the present building is believed to be 1530. Coughton (pronounced Ko-ten) Court is connected with the Gunpowder Plot of 1605 by virtue of the fact that two of the chief plotters, Francis Tresham and Robert Catesby, were grandsons of Sir Robert Throckmorton.
