GM Racing raced a Yamaha YZF-R1 with the British Motorcycle Racing Club from 2009 to 2011. There is a widely believed misconception that you only take part in racing if you expect to win. GM Racing had no such expectation, but had a desire to compete, running their own race against the odds, armed with a wealth of inexperience, hope and infatuation with bikesport. GM Racing was conceived in Winter 2008, in a very short time, with very little funding and no race experience by two bike fans who really should have known better. After spectating at World Superbike and British Superbike meetings, inspired by his nephew George's interest in two-wheeled technology, Mike found his passion for bikes and road racing reignited. This refound enthusiasm quickly evolved into joining a racing club and entering a production based class for 2009. Some online searching drew Mike in the direction of race bike builders and British Superstock team Yomoto and a late November afternoon visit led to delivery of a 2005 Yamaha R1. In August 2011, after 3 seasons in UK club racing, GM have made a conscious decision to step back from short circuit racing for the foreseeable future. This period has been an immensely rewarding and unforgettable experience for both George and Mike during which they met many brilliant bikesport enthusiasts and learned a great deal more about the sport, which they continue to follow closely. |
