Chair of Urban and Regional Planning

Qualifications: BA Geography, King's College, University of London; BPhil Town and Country Planning, University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne.
Previously worked as a strategic planner in local government, a lecturer in Planning at Glasgow School of Art, and a Project Manager with The Planning Exchange.
Main research interests: local economic development, particularly community approaches to employment generation, local government reform and planning under the Scottish Parliament.
Recent publications have included articles on community economic development, the future of development planning and Scottish retail planning.
Teaching and thesis supervision interests: planning techniques, regional planning, urban development, local economic development.
External responsibilities include Director, European Urban Institute and the East End Partnership; Adviser to the Royal Town Planning Institute Economic Development Panel, and Member of the RTPI Scottish Planning Policy Panel.
Outside interests include hill walking.
