[Course Details]
Course aims and objectives
- The MSc and postgraduate Diploma courses have inter-related academic and vocational objectives.
- The aim is to give students an understanding of the theory and practice of urban development.
- This is achieved through classes which examine local economic development, impact analysis and evaluation, planning practice, development processes and urban regeneration. The course emphasises the practical aspects of the management and implementation of change. Students will also develop computer skills and undertake an analysis of the operation of the property markets.
- The overall objective is to foster an awareness of development processes and an understanding of policies to promote economic, social and environmental change in urban areas.
- Students will undertake a range of practical projects, including an optional work placement, throughout the course. The purpose is to synthesise the lecture classes and help develop skills in urban development planning.
- Glasgow is an excellent location for the course because of the range of policies that have been developed to improve the conditions of the city and its people.
