What is Environmental Planning ?
This 4 years full time Honours course offers full professional accreditation
from the educational requirements for corporate membership of the Royal Town
Planning Institute.The course's title reflects society's growing interest in
environmental issues, land use and sustainability.
It is for those who want to do something to improve the quality
of their towns, cities, countryside and coasts: it aims to:-
- provide good housing environments and living conditions;
encourage appropriate business and industrial development and jobs;
- ensure good design standards;
- conserve the best of our natural environment and heritage;
- guide the uses to which land is put;
- create sustainable and attractive places; and
- reduce pollution and congestion and improve transport facilities.

What School Subjects ?
Our students have a variety of Highers and/or A levels including a selection
from :- geography; history ; economics ; english ;
mathematics ; biology and other sciences ; MIS ; graphics / art ;
and many other subjects which contribute to a broadly based
discipline like environmental planning.
We particularly welcome mature students, overseas students and students with work
experience.

In summary THE COURSE offers:
- in the first 2 years, interdisciplinary classes, drawing on the social and
natural sciences, develop an understanding of society, the environment and
the nature of environmental planning. Analytical skills are developed through
a variety of projects on a weekly basis;
- a third year which focuses on planning practice in Britain and Europe, including
an overseas field trip, and allows students to specialise in urban regeneration.Students
are also allocated to a work placement in a Planning Organisation for a short
period of professional practice.
- a specialised fourth year, including the submission of a dissertation coupled
with practice and research oriented classes in public policy planning techniques,
sustainability, community, and economic & urban regeneration.

What do environmental planning graduates do?
With a degree in planning you have the analytical, research and presentation
skills, computer literacy and knowledge of development trends and environmental
impacts to enter a wide range of business and government employment.
