Rushmoor Choir

THE RUSHMOOR CHOIR was founded in 1943  as the Aldershot Choral Society.

What are we?

We are a mixed (SATB) adult choir (including students) of 40-50 voices. We are a registered charity aiming to promote and sustain the choral traditions of our heritage. Our main function is to sing and enjoy it!

What do we sing?

We perform three main concerts each year, encompassing a broad range of music throughout each season, from classical to pop and jazz to the musicals. We also sing, for a fee, at weddings and other odd occasions(!)

Where do we perform?

This varies according to the requirements of the music and its production, but our home site is currently St Christopher's Church, Cove MAP (opens new window). See individual concert details for each performance.
On occasion some of us venture further afield — members of the Choir have performed on tour in Austria, Belgium, the Czech Republic, France, Germany, Holland, Poland, and Sweden.

Where and when do we rehearse?

Rehearsals are every Tuesday evening (in school term time, give or take a week) in St Christopher's MAP (opens new window)., 7.45 pm to 9.45 pm, with a coffee/social break in the middle.

Who can join?

We have an open membership policy , but we do expect members to be able to sing or be actively improving their vocal skills. There are no formal auditions, but the Musical Director will always provide advice where needed.

What are the costs?

The annual fees are broadly in line with other similar organisations in the district: £90 per annum (may be paid at £30 per term). There are concessionary rates for senior citizens of £80 per year and students are welcomed at £10 per term.
The membership fees help towards the cost of rehearsal venues, professional fees and music hire.

How do I become a member?

New members are always welcome and anyone interested in joining should contact the Membership Secretary, Anne Rogers, tel. 01252 850802, who will be pleased to give you further details regarding membership. Alternatively if you would like us to contact you, please send your details to: members@rushmoorchoir.org.uk

You are welcome to come along and sing for a few weeks to find out if we are the group for you before committing yourself.

Other bits:

Music

The choir borrows music from Hampshire County Council Library music service wherever possible to minimise costs.
Some music has to be hired and this cost is included in the membership fee.
Very occasionally we ask members to buy music - but only if it is to be used regularly.

Concert dress

We have a standard choir uniform:

Formal:
Ladies: Green Blouses (uniform) and long black skirts
Gents: DJ & black bow ties (green for some concerts)

Informal:
Ladies: Coloured tops (uniform) and long black skirts
Gents: shirts, ties and dark trousers (sometimes suits)
Help is available to acquire these.

Social Activities

We have occasional social activities which are open to (but not a requirement for) all members:
Meet at the pub after rehearsal (every week)
Christmas party
Post concert parties
Summer walk
Foreign exchanges with other European choirs
We welcome suggestions for other activities, particularly if you can help with the organisation!
