It would seem from reading the above extract that officers wore the Collar Badge
without the 'Ordnance' scroll until the introduction of Service Dress in 1902

Extract from Dress Regulations for the Army 1904, Pages 92 & 93
This is the first edition to list the 1902 Service Dress Bronze Cap & Collar Badges.
But still lists Gilt or Gliding Metal 'Ordnance Arms' without scroll Collar Badges for use on all other forms of dress.
