Gilt QVC worn by the Ordnance Stores Department (OSD)
1875 - 1896
Red velvet backing & backplate, with two ¾” blades to rear.
The use of this badge is not clear, but it more than likely a Forage Cap Device.

with blade fittings
(OD meaning 'Ordnance Department')

It is possible that these two devices were worn together.

The plain crown was worn as a collar badge my many regiments & corps before c1881
and is beleaved to have been worn by the OSC till 1896, and the formation of the Army Ordnance Corps.
At this time the 'Ordnance Shield' was adopted.

Corps of Armourer-Sergents

Prior to Armament Artificers being amalgamated into the Army Ordnance Corps in 1896, they were titled the Corps of Armourer-Sergents, and wore the OSC Uniform with OA metal shoulder titles. Which was held by some to stand for 'Orse Artullery' They were joined by the Ordnance Artificers, Royal Artillery and Inspectors of Ordnance Machinery (The inspectors being officers joined the Army Ordnance Department) to form the Armourer and Armament Section of the Army Ordnance Corps (AOC) in 1896.
