In most cases item descriptions are spelt out in full, However on the odd occasion due to the lack of space, the following abbreviations may be used, which are common with most other books on the subject of militara

METAL BADGES
AA = Anodised Aluminium
BB = Blackened Brass
BM = Bi-Metal - White Metal and Brass
BR = Brass
BZ = Bronzed
CB = Cast Brass
DS = Die-Struck
GE = Gilt & Enamel
GM = Gliding Metal
HP = Helmet Plate
HPC = Helmet Plate Centre
OSD = Officers Service Dress
SE = Silver & Enamel
SL = Silver
SP = Sliver Plated
WM = White Metal

METHOD OF FIXING BADGE
BL = Blades
LG = Lugs (Also called Shanks)
SL = Slider (Also called Prongs)
WL = Wire Loops

COLLAR BADGES
FL = Facing Left
FR = Facing Right
PR = Pair
MP = Matched Pair

CROWNS
QVC = Victorian, 1837 - 1901
KC = King's crown, 1901-53 (Also known as Imperial or Tudor Crown)
QC = Queen's crown, post -1953 (Also known as St Edwards Crown)
QEII = Queen Elizabeth the Second’s Crown - Same as QC (also shown as QIIE)
