Pte Levi Maltby. 111 Vernay Street, New Houghton (Pleasley) was killed in action on August 16th. Pte Maltby was with the Sherwood Pioneers and enlisted on December 11th 1914. He had been wounded previously. Left a widow and three children.

L/Cpl Vincent Cooke, Sheffield Road, Whittington Moor, was killed in action on 13th August. He was 23 years of age and enlisted in August 1914 and went to France a year later. Prior to enlisting he worked at Sheepbridge Works .

Pte William Waring of Fenton Street, Eckington was killed in action on the 13th August aged 33. Prior to enlisting he worked at Markham No 2 Pit and left a wife and 3 children, the youngest being only 2 weeks old. He arrived in France in January 1916.

"It is with deepest regret that I have to inform you that your husband, Private Waring, was killed last night in duty"

L/Cpl Albert Hewitt. Wife and five children lived at Newbridge Street, Old Whittington. Commemorated on the Bushes Memorial. Albert Hewitt was killed by a shell on the night of August 9th, he died instantly. Aged 33 he enlisted in December 1915, prior to which he worked at Markham No 2 Pit.

28052 Pte Samuel Machin, killed in action on the 5th July 1916. A resident of Bolsover.

Pte 14694 Pte John Thomas Darby, killed in action on the 10th September. A resident of Model Village, Creswell he is Commemorated on the Creswell Village Memorial

Pte 20180 Edward Reading, killed in action on the 10th August. Commemorated on the Shirebrook Memorial Plaque
