Minutes of the Meeting held on 12 April. The minutes of the previous meeting were agreed and signed as a correct record.
Correspondence There was none
Planning Applications There were none
Community Centre A meeting had been held to inform Mike Jenkins of the lack of support in the community and to thank him for his hard work in starting the project. Decisions need to be made regarding funding already raised i.e. the donation from the musical event held last summer. The fundraising CD bought by the Danescourt Community Church will need to be returned to them. Edgar will email the sub committee to clarify which funds need to be repaid. Gill asked about the DCA’s charitable status but Edgar replied that this had never been finalised due to the volume of work required. Edgar agreed to contact Councillors Owen and Sheppard to update them on the decision regarding the Community Centre. The Committee agreed that some facility is still needed in Danescourt, particularly for the older residents, and the possibility of the original Church plan to build a smaller centre was suggested.
Telephone Mast Edgar had received a telephone call from a resident of Douglas Close to tell him that the proposed mast to which the DCA and many residents had objected was to go ahead. Once again the DCA had had no contact from the planning office informing them of this.
Traffic Calming Edgar had requested an updated plan of the proposed traffic calming on Danescourt Way but has still received nothing. He agreed to contact Councillors Greg Owen and John Sheppard again.
Festival There were no final figures available as Jane was away, but over £300 had been raised on the goldfish stall alone. The general opinion was that the day had gone relatively well despite the awful weather and other events happening on the same day (the Live 8 concert) which meant it finished early. There was an even bigger problem this year with regard to the lack of help on the day, with committee members having to spend the whole afternoon running stalls and not selling raffle tickets. Sue D and Gill are in the process of sending out thank you letters to everyone who helped on the day. The future of the Festival will need to be discussed in some depth at the next meeting. Suggestions were that the Festival was held on a smaller, more manageable scale or that we raise funds in other ways.
Any Other Business Donna Howard had emailed Edgar informing him that she no longer wished to monitor and update the website. She is willing to continue until November when the domain name is due for renewal. Edgar asked if anyone would be prepared to take over this post. The web site has not been updated for some time and as such the minutes of the last meeting and any available photographs of the Festival would be emailed to Donna to use.
As the Association is now without a secretary, Edgar had approached Sheelagh. She may be willing to dictate the minutes and Sue D has offered to type them each month. A Dictaphone will need to obtained for this, but Edgar believed that this would probably cost about £50 - £60.
A long discussion then began concerning the future of the Association, the Festival and the Newsletter. The DCA is still desperately in need of new members, Gill suggested that we advertise in the next Newsletter both for committee members and help for the Festival. Edgar agreed to contact Elfyn Thomas to write a short piece for the South Wales Echo. It was suggested that in the near future the DCA goes ‘back to basics’ and tackles issues such as street lighting and road cleansing. Sue D mentioned that the Radyr Band had taken part in a very successful fund raising concert this summer charging £4 to include a cream tea.
The meeting closed at 21:15
NEXT MEETING It was agreed that the next meeting of the Committee would be held at 8.30 p.m. on Tuesday 13th September, in the Church Hall, Danescourt.
The next meeting will be an in depth discussion regarding the future of the DCA and the Danescourt Festival. It is important that as many members as possible are present.
