From 2nd October 2005 there will be a new hourly bus service from Danescourt.
The service will call at Velindre Hosp and the University Hospital of Wales, and also cater for evening visiting.
Cardiff Bus will be printing 50,000 timetables and circulating them to all homes on the route in the near future.
07.11.2004 The St John’s Church Christmas Fair on Nov. 6th was busier than ever. There were stalls selling cakes and gifts, raffles and games. But the biggest attraction, of course, was Father Christmas. A massive £778 was raised for church funds. Congratulations to all involved and many thanks to all who contributed.

Dave Johnson is now back and working in Sommerfield. He is well on the way to a full recovery, although still experiences a few painful moments. He wants to thank everyone for their kind messages whilst he was off work and is happy to say hello whilst doing his stock-taking duties.

The Project Team for the proposed Danescourt Community Centre is looking for a Secretary to join the team. If you have a flair for organising meetings and can keep accurate records of discussions and financial decisions, enabling a clear audit trail if necessary, then this is the job for you. It would be an advantage to understand governance and charity work. If you’re interested in giving just a few hours a month, then contact Mike Jenkins of the Danescourt Community Association.

Proposals have been made for the opening of a Pottery Cafe between Radyr Court News and the Danescourt Post Office. These Cafes have been popular throughout the country, providing a place for children (and adults) to paint designs on mugs, plates etc whilst parents enjoy a coffee and a cake. Local response seems favourable with businesses pleased that it will encourage new visitors to the Shoppping Centre.

Despite assurances to the contrary, Taq has just been informed that the new Somerfield, opening tomorrow, will be selling newspapers. As this is the mainstay of his business - and his lease restricts him from selling groceries - he is asking his customers to continue buying papers from him. Your MP, Councillors and the media were involved in Somerfield’s initial assurances but now it is up to the customers to support local traders wherever possible.

The Danescourt Festival on July 3rd is the highlight of the year. The fun starts at 2pm with the opening by Boyd Clack, of Satellite City fame, and there’s a great mix of stalls, rides and entertainment. Music is provided by the Radyr and Morganstown (Melingriffith) Band, dance by Tiger Feet and atmosphere by YOU. So don’t miss out on a great afternoon.

Taq, the Danescourt newsagent, has just heard that Somerfield has decided not to sell newspapers when it opens on 30th June. The store is still in negotiation over the sale of Lottery tickets. Taq would like to thank all his loyal customers who have supported him and contacted Somerfield over this issue.

Our very own magazine, the Danescourt News, will be published in early June. As usual, it will be delivered free of charge to every home on the estate, keeping you informed of all the latest news and issues concerning Danescourt. The magazine, headed by its new editor Patric Morgan, also sports a new name, which reflects the increased stature of the publication. "As popular as the Newsletter was, I felt that the term was not a true reflection of its content. It was far too all-encompassing to be referred to as a newsletter". Patric promises that the magazine will still keep the same balance of local news, history and sport - as well as new features to keep all readers happy. If you have anything suitable for publication, please contact Patric on patricmorgan@danescourtcardiff.com
"It's your magazine- you make it- I just put it together"says Patric.
Deadline for copy is May 23rd.

More than 100 residents attended the Danescourt Community Association A.G.M. The Chairman’s report and Treasurer’s report was followed by a discussion with the local police officers on issues concerning the safety of the community. Several topics were raised including a new road crossing, speed calming measures and youth disturbance. Then there was a discussion over plans submitted for an apartment block on the site of Radyr Chain Cottage near Vista Rise. It was agreed that the local Councillors would object to the planning application on the grounds of increased traffic at an already busy junction.

Taq, the Danescourt Newsagent, has just heard that the new Somerfield store will be selling both newspapers and Lottery tickets. This will take away the only ‘exclusive’ items that his store is allowed to sell and will probably cause the business to close. He will be starting a petition in-store and hoping to gain publicity from the media to keep his store open. Having lost the Fruit and Veg. Shop several years ago, it is important to keep as many small businesses in the Community as possible. His customers may be unaware that, unlike supermarkets, he is very restricted in the range of items that he is allowed to sell. Residents are urged to contact Taq and sign the petition. Also, why not email Somerfield via www.somerfield.co.uk
17.04.2004
A collection has been started in Kwik Save for Dave Johnson. He is now on Ward 4 in Rookwood Hospital and making a slow, but steady recovery. He is working out in the hospital gym and spends his time reading, doing crosswords and socialising with the other ‘inmates’. He would be glad to see any visitors - visiting times are 4-8pm.
23.03.2002
A petition has been started, by a resident, to save Manager Rob Lander’s job. We don’t know the lady concerned but if she would contact the website, we will be happy to give her every assistance.
16.03.2004
Dr Andrew Matthews, the Danescourt Dentist, is to leave the practice at the end of March. He will be staying in Cardiff but concentrating on his teaching work. The new dentists are Dr Emyr Roberts and Dr Katy Palmer. Patients will be informed by letter during the next few weeks. All the other staff in the practice will remain to ensure continuity during the changeover.
14.03.2004
The Radyr and Morganstown (Melingriffith) Band won first prize at the Welsh Regional Finals today. This qualifies the Band to enter the National Finals in Harrogate in September.
11.03.2004
Dave Johnson, one of Kwik Save’s friendliest and most helpful employees, is in hospital following a recent accident when he tripped and fell, damaging his spine. He has now swapped supermarket trolleys for the hospital variety and is on the A4 South Ward at the Heath. As he will be off work for several months, a visit or a card would be greatly appreciated.
09.03.2004
Danescourt’s Kwik Save store will close for a face-lift on 1st June and will re-open as Sommerfield on 30th June. There will be an increased range available in the new store including a mini-bakery and rotisserie. There will be no job losses and as it is hoped to extend opening hours until 10pm, there will be a number of vacancies. It is hoped that staff will organise a petition against the proposed replacement of current manager, Robert Lander. He has been with the store for four years and introduced many new ranges including the fruit and veg, and the frozen meats. Prices will remain the same as Kwik Save, wherever possible. There are proposals to install doors opening onto the car park, but these are still in the planning stage.
During June, Danescourt News will be supplying life’s little essentials, ie bread, milk, loo rolls etc. Tauq is happy to help with any (reasonable) requests from his loyal customers.

A Special General Meeting was held to discuss the change of name from Residents’ Association to Community Association and to find out how the Community Centre was progressing.
More than twenty residents attended the meeting at the Radyr Court which was opened by the Chairman, Mike Jenkins.
The Association’s name-change was voted in unanimously and it was explained that a Community Association has an advantage when applying for funding for a Community Centre.
