The Lighter Side

The following received from a serving officer...

A long time ago, Britain and France were at war. During one battle, the French captured an English major. Taking the major to their headquarters, the French began to question him.

The French general asked, "Why do you English officers all wear red coats? Do you not know that the red material makes you easier targets for us to shoot at?"

The major informed the general that the reason English officers wear red is so that if they are shot, the blood will not show, and the men they are leading will not panic.

And that is why, since that day, all French Army officers wear brown pants.

The British speech : (Lt.Col Tim Collins)

"If you are ferocious in battle, remember to be magnanimous in victory, We go to liberate, not to conquer. We are entering Iraq to free a people, and the only flag that will be flown in that ancient land is their own. Don't treat them as refugees, for they are in their own country. If there are casualties of war, then remember, when they woke up and got dressed in the morning they did not plan to die this day. Allow them dignity in death. Bury them properly and mark their graves. You will be shunned unless your conduct is of the highest, for your deeds will follow you down history. Iraq is steeped in history. It is the site of the Garden of Eden, of the Great Flood and the birth of Abraham. Tread lightly there."

speech : Vice Admiral Timothy Keating

"When the president says 'Go', look out - it's hammer time" (Followed by We Will Rock You played at high volume)

More from 'That serving officer...'

Just heard that the guy off 'Who Wants to be a Millionaire' has hanged himself in his garage this morning. As a mark of respect ITV have said they will pay for the funeral - but not for the coffin...!
