How does Bowen
Therapy work?
Bowen moves
stimulate the body's information highway much like you press a button to boot
a computer.
We manipulate the fascia with a Bowen move which sends a
vibration or message through the body triggering its own innate ability to
self-heal.
Fascia is connective
soft tissue fibre that surrounds muscles and organs and provides a passageway
for our nerves which carry the body’s information.
Amazingly, the Bowen
work will go wherever it is needed within the body. For example, a neck
injury which may result from prolonged lower back problem of which the
patient is unaware, if the Therapist were to work on the neck, the body may
make adjustment to the lower back, later resulting in an improved neck .
Often patients report improvement of symptoms they forgot to tell the
Therapist about in the first place.
Probably the
strangest part of Bowen Therapy is the intervals. Sometimes as few as two
moves are made and the therapist must leave the patient for a moment, for
their body to assimilate the messages, react and readjust accordingly.
Over-treating can minimise the effect, so we patiently respect the 2 minute
breaks and try not to overload the body's communication highway, the central
nervous system.
