Ship Here With 77 Wounded. The United States Navy hospital ship Repose arrived hear yesterday from Shanghai bringing 77 wounded personnel of the four British naval craft which came under Communist artillery fire in the Yangtse a fortnight ago. Press representatives were refused admission into the Naval Dockyard to board the Repose. It was learned from the Naval Dockyard Police, however, that out of the 77 wounded, 49 were stretcher cases, while the rest could walk. No further details were available. Six ambulances were ready there to take the wounded to the Royal Navy Hospital (War Memorial Hospital) from the Naval Dockyard yesterday. On board the Repose were also 118 American nationals, evacuated from China. Mr. George D. Hopper American Consul here, went on board to greet the arrivals. Mr. Hopper said yesterday that 45 evacuees, mostly missionaries, disembarked here. The others are in transit to Manila and Japan. Those landing here would be staying with relatives and friends, Mr. Hopper declared. The Repose, which passed Lyemun at 10 a.m. yesterday, is due to sail on May 5th. |
