The Admiral's Table.

Index

HMS London arrived off Sabang on 28th August 1945 to accept the surrender of all Imperial Japanese Forces in Sumatra. Commodore Poland formally accepted the surrender on 3rd September from Vice Admiral Hirose, the documents being signed on London's Admiral's Conference Room Table.

50 years later Lt. Cdr. Gordon Bruty learnt that the Table had survived her scrapping and was in daily use at Flag Officer Sea Training (FOST), Plymouth. Much correspondence later and an invitation was received inviting ex-Londoners to attend a small gathering at FOST to witness the unveiling of a plaque close to the Table.
