I recently (February 2001) received an email from Brian Whitcombe in Australia with a photograph attached (see below). Brian's Father, Alexander, served on HMS Cumberland throughout the Second World War. There were a number of occasions when the Cumberland and London operated together, notably the Russian Convoys and as part of the East Indies Fleet. Since that first email Brian has sent a number of other photographs, some of which you will find on this and the following pages.
Operation Millet.
On 17th. October 1944 HMS London was part of the strike force of 'Operation Millet'. In company with HMS Cumberland and other allied ships Car Nicobar was attacked from both the sea and air.
