Able Seaman Alexander Wilson.

The four inch gun deck suffered 38% casualties during the Yangtze Incident and one of those was Alexander Wilson. The following day, 22nd April 1949, Alex was in the second batch of wounded to be taken aboard the Hospital Ship USS Repose for treatment and onward passage to Hong Kong. The Repose arrived in Hong Kong on Sunday 1st May and the casualties were transferred to the Royal Naval Hospital on the peak. Alex rejoined HMS London three weeks later, returning to Alacrity Anchorage at the mouth of the Yangtze.

The photo's and letter to Mrs. Wilson were left to Alex's grandson Ronnie Gaffney when Alex passed away in 1993. The Association is grateful that Ronnie has allowed their inclusion on the site.
