HAIRCARE

Better hair: Shampooing

You should always use the right shampoo for your hair type. Choose your shampoo then completely saturate your hair with warm water. Your Shampoo will not work properly if your hair is not wet enough.
Rub a small amount of shampoo between your palms and then distribute it evenly through hair.
Gently massage it into your scalp with your fingertips. Don't be tempted to wash your hair quickly and you should never pile your hair on top of your head and rub, as this will cause knots. Then do this again, this time you should have more of a lather.
You should treat your hair with care when wet, it is more vulnerable than when it is dry. Make sure you rinse your hair thoroughly with clean water, do not use your bath water to rinse your hair, this is because dirty water won't make your hair clean and it won't rinse the shampoo out thoroughly.
Don't use the same shampoo all the time. Your hair will develop a resistance after a period of time, so change your shampoo now and then. Now apply your conditioner, make sure you chose the right product for you hair type. Apply the conditioner to the hair and work from the ends up. Use a wide toothcomb thorough your hair to distribute evenly. If you have a dry or flaky scalp, massage the conditioner into the scalp, don't do this if your scalp gets greasy, because it will become oilier Quicker.
To remove split ends take a small piece of hair, twist it into a tube and hold it between your index finger and your thumb. Trim off any split ends that stick out. Use a small sharp pair of scissors.
You should massage your scalp about once a week or get someone to do it for you as it is a lot more relaxing, this will help to maintain a healthy scalp, it boosts circulation to the scalp, and doing this will deliver nutrients and oxygen to the hair follicles.

  • Hair grows about half an inch per month.
  • Hair becomes a lot dryer with age.
  • Hair grows much quicker between the ages of 16 to 24.
  • All brushes should be cleaned at least once a month. This removes dead hair and the build up of hair products.
  • Replace brushes and combs straight away if they have damaged bristles or broken teeth. The sharp edges may damage your scalp.
  • Keep your brushes and combs to yourself, never share with other people.

    Protecting your hair:

Hair burns in the sun just like skin so why pay a fortune for a great haircut and colour, if you are just going to leave hair to frazzle in the sun. The results of this is faded, bleach out, frizzy hair.
You need to protected your hair and scalp from the sun. Sun protective sprays and conditioners provide UVA and UVB protection for your hair and scalp during exposure to the sun, sea and chlorine. Using a protector will help stop the hair drying out, whilst providing protection from scorching and fading of natural and coloured hair. Or you can simply wear a hat.
