D.I.Y Facial: Introduction:
Treating your face to a weekly facial helps to unblock pores and help prevent spots. It is also very relaxing and helps soften tension lines to make you look instantly refreshed and younger, giving a lovely glow to the skin. So you'll feel less inclined to cover your face with make up.
Massage your face wash onto wet skin and rinse with clean warm water. This will gently foam away any impurities.
Steaming is the best way to get your pores spring clean. Get your pores open by holding your head over a bowl of hot water with a towel covering your head and the bowl, this will help to keep the steam in. Steaming your face is a great weekly treatment as it forces out any dirt and impurities. But if you have eczema, sensitive skin or acne, do not steam, as this could irritate any skin problems. When steaming you can use a few drops of lavender oil or a handful of fresh lavender. This will help clear the skin and make you feel relaxed.
Tip:
Never put your face to near the boiling water, as this could lead to broken veins.
If you are tempted to squeeze any blackheads, now is the best time, as your pores are open. Straight after you have steamed you face, use a dry tissue or a clean damp piece of cotton wool and give the blackhead a little squeeze. If it's not ready to come out don't force it.
Rinse your face with warm water and pat dry and apply a gentle face scrub and never scrub to hard. Using a facial scrub will get rid of dead skin cells, and will make your skin smoother and it adds more colour, which will give your skin a healthy glow.
Tip:
When choosing a facial scrub, choose one with small, smooth grains. When applying your face scrub, use your fingertips, and massage gently in a circulation motion.
Now apply a facemask, one which is best suited to your skin type. Apply it to your face and neck and relax for 15 minutes, while the mask is working.
Tip:
There are facemasks for every skin type. Mud masks can be used on normal skin, combination and oily types. It should not be used on dry skin, it could irritate the skin situation. Mud masks are formulated to gently draw out impurities and cleanse the blocked pores, whilst absorbing excess oil in the skin. Some facemasks can clog pores, so look for masks that say non-comedogenic.
Make sure you have washed all of the facemask off, if it feels like you haven't, use a facial wash.
