History of Wessex XS887

6-4-66 

Taken on charge and issued to 829 Naval Air Squadron (NAS). Code 403-FI it operated from County Class guided missile destroyer D20 HMS Fife.

XS887 Carrying Two Mk44 Torpedoes

Operating with Royal Naval Air Station (RNAS)   Yeovilton station flight coded 18-VL.

7-75  

Operating with 772 NAS at RNAS Portland, coded 514-PO. At some time in the following five years XS887 was placed into storage at the Royal Naval Aircraft Yard at Wroughton.

The aircraft was given the maintenance number A2690 and was used by the School of Aircraft Handling at RNAS Culdrose.

7-83  

Its operational life came to an end and it was taken into preservation at the Cornwall Aero Park (now Flambards Theme Park).

8-12-07 

Donated to YHPG by L/Cdr D Kingston-Hale and moved to Aeroventure by road where it is now on display and  undergoing restoration to halt any further deterioration of the airframe.
