Plaza Theatre
2009: The Plaza 'on tour'
An exciting diary of events is planned over the next few months as the Plaza goes ‘on tour’ to other venues around Stockport.The theatre itself will be closed for most of this year while work goes on to return the Grade II * listed building to its former glory. The landmark 1930s' façade which overlooks the town centre Mersey Square will benefit from a major restoration scheme. Front of house areas are also set for a facelift including the foyers, toilets and entrances
When? February - November 2009 Funded by...? £1.9 million has been pledged by the
Heritage Lottery Fund backed by a further
£650,000 from the North West Regional
Development Agency and £300,000 from
Stockport Council. Money has also been raised
through public donations, bucket collections,
raffles, fairs and sponsored events organised
by the Plaza’s dedicated team of volunteersFuture plans Fundraising at the Plaza is ongoing with
a view to restoring the auditorium and back
stage area along with the never-ending costs
