This Time Line will form the basis of a more extensive biography which is in the course of development.

 

Aug 1944                     31st  Born at Hemel Hempstead Hospital, Hertfordshire

Oct 1944                     Moved to Ewell, Surrey

Nov 1945                    Moved to “Green Roof”, Ashley Road, Epsom

Sep 1949                     Started school at St Christopher’s, Epsom

Apr 1950                     Family moved to St Winnan’s, 25 Ledcameroch Rd, Bearsden Nr Glasgow

                                    I remained in Epsom with Great Aunts to finish the school year.

Jul 1950                       Back in the family in Scotland

Sep 1950                     Started schooling at Drewsteignton Preparatory School, Bearsden

Sep 1952                     Moved to “The Yews”, 8 Rosevale Rd in Bearsden

Sep 1953                     Started school at The Glasgow Academy

Feb 1962                     Passed the Admiralty Interview Board

Jun 1962                      Education completed achieving 7 Higher Grade and 2 Lower Grades in the Scottish Leaving Certificate

Sep 1962                     Entered the Britannia Royal Naval College, Dartmouth in St Vincent Division as a Cadet(E).

Jan 1963                      Joined HMS Urchin, Dartmouth Training Squadron for sea experience.  Visited Tenerife and the West Indies.

May 1963                    Returned to BRNC to complete Cadet Training.

Aug 1963                     Joined HMS Belton, Fishery Protection Squadron as Midshipman.  Served in UK Waters

Jan 1964                      Transferred to HMS Bulwark for “big ship” experience including an attachment to 845 Naval Air Squadron (Wessex HU1).  Served in Mediterranean, Aden and Far East.

Sep 1964                     Joined the Royal Naval Engineering College, Manadon in Plymouth to study a Diploma in Electrical Engineering as a Sub Lieutenant

May 1967                    Graduated 2:1 Diploma and selected for Air Electrical specialisation.

Jun 1967                      Started Weapon Engineering Application Course at RNEC

Sep 1967                     Promoted Lieutenant

Feb 1968                     Started Air Engineering Application Course at RNEC

Apr 1968                     Transferred to the Air Electrical School at HMS Daedalus, Lee on the Solent including time at HMS Condor, Arbroath

Oct 1968                     Appointed to 809 Naval Air Squadron (Buccaneer S2) at RNAS Lossiemouth for the final phase of Field Training.

Apr 1969                     Awarded Certificate of Competency and appointed to 800 Squadron (Buccaneer S2) onboard HMS Eagle as AEO 3.  Served in Home Waters, Mediterranean, USA, New Zealand, Australia, Hong Kong and Singapore

Jan 1972                      HMS Eagle pays off in Devonport and 800 Squadron disbands at Lossiemouth.

Mar 1972                     Started course on the Martel Missile System at Hawker Siddeley Dynamics Ltd, Hatfield

Jun 1972                      Joined the Martel Support Squadron at RAF Marham, Norfolk including time with 214 Squadron RAF (Victor K2)

Sep 1974                     Appointed to the Air Engineering School, HMS Daedalus as Apprentices Course Officer

Dec 1974                     Bought first house at Woolston Court, Broadsands Drive, Gosport

Sep 1975                     Promoted Lieutenant Commander and re-assigned as Management and NBCD Training Officer.

Oct 1976                     Appointed to HMS Ark Royal as Avionics and Guided Weapons Officer.  Served in Home Waters, Germany, France, Mediterranean, West Indies and USA

Nov 1978                    Bought new home at 18 South Lodge, Catisfield, Nr Fareham, Hampshire

Jan 1979                      HMS Ark Royal paid off at Portsmouth

Mar 1979                     Joined 824 Squadron (SeaKing HAS2) at RNAS Culdrose as Air Engineer Officer including deployments to HMS Hermes, HMS Bulwark and RFAs Fort Grange and Fort Austin.  Served in Home Waters, Norway, Mediterranean and USA

Nov 1980                    Appointed to RNAS Yeovilton as Senior Electrical Engineer and Deputy AEO

Nov 1982                    Joined the Air Engineering School, HMS Daedalus as Weapons and Avionics Group Officer

Dec 1984                     Re-assigned as Training Administration and Planning Officer

Aug 1994                     Retired from the Royal Navy

Oct 1994                     Completed RYA courses as Dinghy and Powerboat Instructor before starting teaching at the Royal Navy Sailing Centre, Whale Island, Portsmouth

Oct 1999                     Retired from RNSC to become full-time carer for my mother
