United Friends

I.O.W.A.

Years ago, a game was invented by Alan Parr, which he called, United. It was, and still is a simple football management game. I am honoured to be part of Alan's league in Hopscotch. From these beginnings, more leagues evolved all using the original United rules. The games spread to continental Europe still in the same format, where leagues developed in many countries, notably Germany, Holland and Austria. In England, the leagues started to bring in their own rules and diverge away from the original game. So here in England, there are still many United based games, but only one 'pure' United game, the original one in Hopscotch. I have been trying to find a game on the continent, which prints its zine in English for some time. Being typically English, I never really mastered another language! So I was delighted when I was contacted to join this league.

The game is free to play and is played entirely by e-mail. It is hoped that there will be 4 divisions of 12 teams. The zine is written in Dutch and English. The GM is a Dutchman currently based in Hungary, and the game has players throughout Europe. Indeed, the GM also hosts the European Cup where the top United players from all over Europe compete for the title! Top stuff!

Season 6

11th May 2008

Steady Start!

We needed to get a couple of results this session and started away at FC Dropje. One goal settled the game and it did not come from us. Still we were encouraged by the performance if not by the final result. At home against AFC Buzzwack that confidence was evident. Goals from Blackgang (2) and Limerstone (2) made sure we kept in touch with the promotion race

 FC Dropje 1 - 0 IOWA.

IOWA 4 - 0 AFC Buzzwack.

News to report on the transfer front this week. New Apprentice players are Haxley, Binnel and Northwood, and they continue to progress.
