REF
NEWCASTLE BROWN

This was the first game I got involved in and as such, is one of my favourite games. My first team, Houston WHAP, started life in division two, but were relegated to division three, four seasons ago. I managed to survive for the last three seasons. Then, out of the blue, I was offered the chance to take over Newcastle United All stars, so here we are!
This game's turns are unfailingly every fourth week and REF in invariably with you no later than the fifth day after the deadline for orders.
The price is quite low too, costing about 10 pounds a year. Most of the managers are adults and some have been playing for many years. Below, I will give details of my latest turn, so that you can share my success or failure! I will also add details of transfers that involve the team, and my thoughts on the next turn's games.
The league is split into five divisions with 44 teams competing. Divisions 1 and 2 have 8 teams, divisions 3 and 4 have 9 teams and division 5 has 10 teams. There are also cup competitions to be played.

The game is organised by:

Teams become available all the time. Contact Andy if you would like further details or would like putting on the short waiting list. Andy edits the REF zine and has reports on every game. These are short but often fun-filled and humorous. Quite often his play on words, using the player's names can be very funny. A lot of the teams have players named to reflect their team's name. For example, Houston WHAP were all named after American astronauts, New boys are all prefixed by the word New and Phobia 4U are all phobias, such as Agro (phobia), Claustro, Hydro, etc. Newcastle United All Stars will be renamed to Newcastle Brown, and will all have names of real ale!

Season 30
19th July 2008
Ambitions Revealed!
We had just one game to play this week but it was a vital one if we hoped to gain promotion this season. A win would keep us in the hunt, defeat would make the task almost impossible. It really goes against the grain for me to throw games, but we are simply not ready to face life in the top division again. The bare facts are that we would struggle, crowds would fall, income would dry up and the clubs finances would be in a mess. So we decided to take a fall and stay in division two to prepare properly for an assault on the top flight again. Hence the team that faced Fratton bore little resemblance to a normal Newcastle Brown team, and the result shows that in stark detail!
Fratton 6 - Newcastle Brown 0.
Transfer news this week. Nothing, we are skint but the finances are starting to come under control now. Still in debt but we are now in a position to buy a cheap player or two!
