90 Minutes

The Slatebedders

This game is very similar in play to REF, in that the players improve by gaining match experience. It would be fairly accurate, but maybe slightly unfair to say that this is a simpler game than REF is. It has its good points as do all games, but it is generally a smaller game than REF is. I used to play 90 minutes a few years ago and was manager of Potasch United. I gave the game up and have always regretted it. Thankfully I am now back under sad circumstances. Keith Loveys, a stalwart of PBM games has recently died leaving a free team. I take over his team, and I am truly honoured to follow in his footsteps. His team was called The Adepts and we will keep that name for this season, changing to The Slatebedders for season 19.

The league has 3 divisions of 8 teams plus the usual array of cup competitions.

I have to add that the quality of the game zine seems better than I remember, which is a good sign of a healthy game! The game cost is about £10 per season.

Season 22

Two league games to play this week and the big question was, could we avoid the drop into division three? Well, at home to Middle Earth was our chance and we went for glory! But although our forward line was immense, they got very little service from midfield. Middle earth defended for a draw and they got that! The final game was away at Pliocene United. At this point Westminster Wanderers were down and any one from four teams would join them. Life United had 12 points with +5 goal difference, Pliocene United 12, -4; Middle Earth 11, 0; and The Slatebedders 11, -6. Life won at Wimbledon to save themselves and Middle Earth beat Westminster to secure their status too. Surely we were down! Tania and Hinblue thought not and their goals sent Pliocene crashing down and saved us at least for the moment! We now face a play off for our division 2 survival against Magic City.

The Slatebedders 0 - Middle Earth 0.

Pliocene United 0- The Slatebedders 2.
