Catenaccio

MAIDEN ENGLAND

Catenaccio is yet another football based game. This one differs from REF in one significant way. REF is based on known levels/abilities of the players in the game. This game has a greater element of luck involved, in all areas of the game. As such, I find this game truer to life and in a lot of ways, easier to play. More control of finance is needed alongside a full knowledge of the rigid set of rules. Once mastered, this game is well worth trying.
I joined the game, and was given the job of managing Maiden England. For once, I decided not to change the name, as I quite liked the one in place! All my players are named after top landowners at the time of the Doomsday Book.

After a major league restructure, the league will now have two divisions of 12 teams from season 19.

Astradyne is the name of the zine produced for this game. There are teams available at the moment, so if you want to join in, contact:

Costs about £12.50 a year to play, which is about the standard for this type of game!
But be warned, this game is not for the faint hearted or uncommitted! The GM has recently added a few major rule changes and I have to applaud him for that. All games need a little shake up now and then!

Season 20

20th October 2009

Trying to steady the ship!

This week we had three games to play. We started in the league at home against HJK Helsinki. This was a close game and we used a 3-4-3 formation. McRae is starting to show why we bought him and rampaged forward from defence to score our goal. It was not enough to take all the points though! The next game was away in Finland, against Helsinki! We stuck to the same formation, but this time it did not work well. McRae still made an impression with the ref, but this time to be booked! The final game was again in the league and this time at home against Southern Venom. Having been well beaten by them recently, we knew this game was beyond us so took the chance to play the reserves again. We got exactly what we deserved!

Maiden England  1 - 1 HJK Helsinki

HJK Helsinki 1 - 0 Maiden England

Maiden England  0 - 3 Southern Venom

The great strength of this club over the years has been its offside trap. So along with the development of players, some investment has been made to retrain players in this vital defensive area. Alongside this we need to improve the effectiveness of our midfielders and forwards in breaking down the offside trap of other teams. Also we have to look at new training rules and develop our own trainers, coaching older players to develop this skill, rather than buy in trainers.

News on the transfer front. Nothing this week.
