Almost a two mile section of the Swansea Vale Railway
between Six Pit Junction and Upper Bank Station, has now been preserved by the
Swansea Vale Railway Society.
Much of this section proceeds along the course of the of the old Scott's Tramroad.

The Swansea Vale Railway Company LTD, was formed to re-open and operate the
line, so reviving
this name once more.

The land, owned by Swansea and City Council,
is leased to the Company as a Charity.
Volunteers have drawn up a long term plan to rebuild and extend the line Southwards
to Upper Bank Station. At the same time volunteer engineers are restoring the
Locomotives and rolling stock.

Steam trains operate from the Northern terminus at Six
Pit Junction, at the edge of the Llansamlet Enterprise
Park. Future plans include rides starting from Upper Bank when the new Station
is built, hopefully in the not
too distant future.

Passengers at present can enjoy train rides from the
recently constructed Six Pit Station to Cwm Crossing, a distance of two thirds
of a mile, which is the halfway point within the Forest Park, Hauled by the
Society's 1914 built Peckett steam loco 'Mond Nickel No1' along with the DMU
center car and Mk11 brake 2nd.
Also a shop will be open on operating days, offering sales and refreshments
in the converted guards section
of the MK11.

During 2002 the volunteers plan to extend the journey
just short of Upper Bank, where a temporary Halt will
be situated, a distance of one and a half miles, allowing passengers in future
to alight at Upper Bank Shed,
giving the chance to visit the restoration workshops, view volunteers at work,
also making it possible to arrange guided tours of the old site, where the ash
pit, turntable base, and coaling ramp are situated.

In the future passengers will then be able to enjoy rides,
over the full two miles. All will eventually be
restored.

4270 pictured below, in its current condition stands at Upper Bank and is pictured awaiting its turn for restoration or sale at the right price.

The funds raised from
the possible sale would be put to good use, by completing the restoration of
the Society's 0-6-0 Austerity No 3829,
(pictured below) which is already
and is
taking shape very steadily,
indeed during July 1999 the Frames were lowered onto the re-tyred
wheel sets, making the loco a rolling chassis once again.
If you require more information about 4270
please write or send an
expressing your interest in the Loco. Donations
are Welcome
