THE OLD INNS OF ENGLAND . . . No 1. The FALCON

From the copy of Popular Motoring dated August 1935, sent by Tony Raynor from California ..

Singer’s In-House Magazine carried a series of features on the ‘Old Inns of England’, and No1 was this attractive timbered inn, which is described as ‘A pleasant old fashioned hostelry on the Warwick-Birmingham Road’.

Googling ‘Falcon Inn’ I found that it is still still there in the picturesque village of Hatton near Warwick, so I sent them a copy of the drawing, with a request for an up to date picture of their inn, but so far have not received a reply. I also sent a copy to our own John Taylor, who lives nearby, and he has kindly sent the picture below, which he took from almost the identical spot to where the artist had stood 75 years ago. And with the wall having since been knocked down,

The signboard has the following verse under a weatherworn illustration of a falcon:

“The Falcon’s eye is bright and clear, So likewise is this Falcon’s beer.”

you can now see the old Singer 10/26 that was parked behind it!
Thanks again to Tony, and to John for his time and trouble to get the photo for us.
