Gala Dinner
The Gala Dinner was held in the Britannia Suite at the Royal Court Hotel, Keresley, Coventry.
Some 300 Singer car enthusiasts and guests from around the world were there, including the guest speaker Councillor Ram Lakha, Lord Mayor of Coventry.  This was most apposite, as George Singer was himself Mayor of Coventry for several years.  There were also some ex-employees of the Singer Car
Company, one of whom, John Spencer, who started work in the Canterbury Street factory in 1933, gave a fascinating account of the working life of a Singer employee.  This was Singer history from someone who was actually there - “Tuppence-Farthing an hour, and if you were 5 minutes late you were docked ¼ of an hour - light bulbs no brighter than 60W to illuminate your workspace..” and so on.  John has kindly lent us his speaking notes so that we can  all share his story.
Representatives from overseas Singer clubs were all invited to give a short speech and were then presented with commemorative plaques.
