The Singer Car Centenary Celebration

And so to Stoneleigh Abbey, a few miles south of Coventry, for the main event of the weekend of celebrations.  The setting was the Home Park directly in front of the Abbey and it was ideal.   As we entered, every(?) car was professionally photographed against a banner with the Centenary Logo, and the Abbey in the background.
The ASCO tent, flag and sail banner were soon erected, the Regalia set out, and the half-scale replica of John Horne’s bright red Singer 1950s pennant from Automenders in Barnes, South  London Singer agents, prominently displayed.
Next on the agenda was to collect David Blackwell’s 1924 car from Offchurch, and as soon as David Garn had off-loaded his Bantam we set off with Simon Bishop, not knowing quite what to expect.  To say we were not disappointed must be the understatement of the year. That it should turn up so close to Stoneleigh
was little short of miraculous, and it was great to be able to get this rare old car to the event.  Our thanks to David for not only collecting the car for us, but also delivering it back to Offchurch after the event.
With over 250 cars, bikes and tractors on display, and so many people to stop and talk with,  it was a job to get round and do them all the justice they deserved. And so many superb and rare cars - hopefully the
Well done! - and a huge “THANK YOU” to everyone engaged in the planning, organisation, sponsorship and running of this unforgettable occasion.
“Field Full of Singers” pictures on the following pages give some impression of the scale of the event.  And then there were the parades around the arena, with representative vehicles from each class and year group, all with expert commentary making every entry special, as indeed, they are.
