There are a lot of outdoor activities available for those who appreciate a bit of an adventure. Several walking paths have been marked out in the forests around Tärendö, taking one out to the exciting and untouched wilderness of the region. There are also canoes for hire at Tärendö Turism (or TT as it is called by the locals) which allows you to navigate on the rivers of the bifurcation. Please be careful though as there are several large waterfalls feeding the area. These waterfalls are, on the other hand, perfect for fishing, and fishing permits can be bought at the TT.

Not far from the TT is the village’s Homestead Museum. This museum holds one of the most complete and embracing collections of 18th-19th century life in the region and is definitely worth a visit. There are guides available to take you around the large number of buildings included in the museum. Not far from the museum, in an old, large, white house by the river, lies a small shop selling handmade ceramics by Stina Gustavsson. Her designs are greatly influenced by the nature and landscape of the region, making them genuine and unique.

For those who want to venture out a bit further away from the village there is a great deal of sight-seeing to do. The Tourist Office in Pajala has more complete information.
