What is re-mapping?
Re-mapping or chipping as it's also know, has been around since the late 80s, when vehicles started to move away from mechanical fuelling to electronic systems. This would need an on bored computer to work out the air fuel ratio, timing and ignition for exapmple. This was called the vehicles ECU or electronic control unit.
Vehicles up to 1999, the ECUs would need a
re-chip to alter the file inside. After 1999 most of them could have the ECU re-programmed via the service port (OBDII socket).This lets us re-map the ECU with out having to take the unit out.
