Back in Ye Olden Days, computer magazines were everso slightly different from todays' newstand favourites. The really old 8bit magazines were full of type-in BASIC programs. Literally. Pages. Of. The. Damn. Things. That invariably didn't work (although for legal reasons, I'll blame my typing on this, as opposed to questioning the integrity of the magazine type-in listings).

Thankfully, this section covers none of those so-called 'magazines'.

The explosion in popularity of the home computer games market in the early 80s spawned dozens of computer magazines for all kind of machines, including the Spectrum. I remember reading a hobbyist mag called (something like) What? Spectrum, which was the print equivelant of many webzines out there today. Except in the W?S editorial, the editor moaned about not being able to receive freebie games for review purposes, unlike Crash. I really can't imagine a Spectrum webzine editor today complaining they can't get hold of any Speccy games...

For the majority of the Spectrum's commercial existence, there had been three magazines for the Gentle Gameplayer to buy and read. As you may have guessed by now, those were Crash, Sinclair User and Your Sinclair.

Click on the respective logo to read my opinion of that magazine...

NB: some of the popup images in this section are quite large; both in physical size and in filesize. They may take some time to appear if you're using a dial-up modem.
