(Requires WORKBENCH; use Microdeal Pro Midi Interface.)

Taking the same approach as Instant Music, Music Mouse provides an easy mouse-driven way to play complex chord structures without need for any musical knowledge on the user’s part.

Whilst Instant Music takes the form of a crude block-based sequencer, the interface Music Mouse uses represents two right-angled virtual keyboards on-screen, the notes and chords of which can be played by gliding the mouse in any direction.

Assorted keyboard controls and mouse driven menus provide much variety in what can be played and how, with a convenient keyboard shortcut card added which serves to aid real-time control.

The inbuilt MIDI compatibility, though only for data output, provides the capability for the software to route its play through various outboard synthesisers, electric pianos, organs, sequencers and computers; these additional sound capabilities are in addition to the Amiga’s own. Using the standard twin output MIDI interfaces made for the Amiga, up to 32 electronic instruments can be played at one time, with any number of them divided into 4 sections. (However, there is no ‘note off’ commands for the MIDI routing which means that playback has to be switched off manually at the computer keyboard’s ~ key if there is no note decay on any externally synthesised voice. Nevertheless, the software can be easily integrated into a recording studio, with the added benefit of that functionality being extended to the MIDI-compatible WinUAE Amiga emulator for the PC.)
