NASA TV FOR THE UK

NASA Television (NTV) is a resource designed to provide real-time coverage of Space related activities and missions. It provides video resources to the media and educational programming to Teachers, Students and the General Public.

NTV is broadcast via satellite on GE-2, transponder 9C, C-Band, located at 85 degrees West longitude. The frequency is 3880.0 MHz. Polarization is vertical and audio is monaural at 6.8 MHz.

In the UK there is no recognized distributor for NTV, so access to transmissions is limited to those who own specialized hi tech satellite dishes / decoders or have access to the Web.

Nasa & online news organizations, such as CNN, MSNBC, Fox Online and SPACE.com, will stream NTV direct to your PC, as well as use live footage within televised news bulletins etc.

The transmission quality of NTV via earthbound UHF, Digital or Cable, knocks the socks off the “streamed & pixilated” offerings of the Web… but the Web does deliver it’s footage continually... ...not in little five minute bursts!

Such is the dilemma faced by UK viewers.

The coverage supplied by NASA is extremely educational.  A wide range of Space documentaries are broadcast, each highlighting a scientific theme with an excellent delivery.

Most Spacecraft launches are televised live, inclusive of Russian & ESA collaborations. Coverage is exceptionally detailed ….from the Astronaut’s morning breakfast through to Low Earth Orbit…and beyond.

The construction of the International Space Station can now be viewed through the eyes of its EVA workforce. The Astronauts wear “Helmet Cams”, needed to show the Engineering Crews back in Mission Control what’s going on.  The recent attachment of the Quest Airlock was transmitted in full.  Coverage & detail was so good that I’m sure if Nasa were to take me to the ISS, I’d be able to do a couple of repair jobs…no problem!  hint. hint...

The source picture quality is stunning and the combination of the live Earth to Orbit dialogue and explanatory commentary from  Nasa Specialists, allows us, the viewers, to really see & hear what is happening in Space.

If you’re not Dennis Tito (EOW respect rating = 10/10 by the way!!), it’s the nearest you may get.

Like many of you, The Eyes believe our future will dictate the importance & relevance of Space Exploration.

Industry, Commerce, Science & Exploration will benefit greatly from its study & use.

It's already started, it’s happening NOW!

Could the UK youngsters of today be inspired by NTV?   Could young minds be fuelled with knowledge for the future, encouraging & promoting their contribution?

Let’s get the UK in the picture !

The Eyes of the World believe that UK Space Cadets should have easy access to NTV.  NTV delivers a valuable, informative, quality service. It offers a provision for us to learn, appreciate  & be inspired towards the wonders of Earth, Space & the Universe.

Do UK broadcasters actually know that we’d like this service?  Let’s tell them!
