INfest8

We caught up with Shah from Infest8 from England who
has just finished remixing "Bass Creator" for Dimention-X-
and "Flesh Wound" for Massivivid’s Persist! Remix! Project.

" I originally come from a classical orchestral background and from there I sort of moved through rock bands until my old drummer, come one-time singer – Big Steve (The Acid Pimp; K-Tribe) and myself decided to ‘go electronic’ so we started this industrial band called Grace.2146. At the time we only had two Amigas and a four track with no outboard at all. He sang, I played guitar and the Amigas kicked out these grainy 8 bit lo-fi samples. Looking back some of the stuff is quite amusing but at the time it was the business."

"After a while we started borrowing and buying outboard gear and found ourselves going more techno-trance – which was cool. We did a few gigs in England which went really well. One gig we played for an hour and a half mixing one track into the next – we didn’t even have a set list. Then a couple of years back we went our separate ways musically. Steve’s doing well in the underground acid techno scene."

"I started using MED when it was still in its four channel era – but at the time it was allready the dog’s proverbials. – I can knock out a track really quickly without faffing about any. I use a lot of outboard these days but I still use OctaMED to control all my sequencing and sonic manipulation (with the analogue exceptions). My A1200 is responsible for all the subtle ‘whhrrrr’ ‘sqqqwwzzz’ sounds in my mixes. One of my greatest loves of OctaMED is that you can load absolutely anything in as a sample and then mess about with it: I love loading in programs, screens, documents because sometimes you get these little beeps and squelches and you can cut up the samples and make a really cool percussive loop with it – I couldn’t do that on Soundforge (well not that quickly anyway)."

The sound of Infest8 is industrial techno trance.

MORPHO GENESIS

"Trance overtaken with Industrial angst. Hard-hitting beats cower under gothic synth textures and brutal sound effects." – Melissa P [Listen.com]

"I put together the first Infest8 album – "Morpho Genesis" really quickly for sale on mp3.com – most of the tracks are just stereo mixes. I got a bit excited to tell the truth and just wanted to see how it all worked. I aim to release another two over the summer: A new Infest8 album and an E.P for my side project – Zos Kia Cultus which is a bit more vocal and ‘rockier’ than the Infest8 stuff. I call it electrorganica."

"I’ve managed to sell a few copies of Morpho Genesis across the globe over the ‘net but nothing major. Ideally, I’d like to do some soundtracks for some movies. Still, I’ve had really good response for the CD. It’s been played in the clubs here and in USA. I had the chance to feature some vocals on one of the tracks (Ahh Hello) by a girl singer called Kayla who is a good friend of mine and that track did very well – number 9 on www.mp3.com."

"My influences mostly comes very much from outside the electronic forum. If I had to pin down my biggest musical influences then it’d have to be Marc Bolan, David Bowie, Kate Bush, Gary Numan and Astral Projection. Gary Numan was really the man who turned me onto the synthesizer and showed that man/machine can be emotive. Bolan, Bowie and Bush gave me character of voice which I transferred to sound it general and Astral Projection are just plain excellent."
