Under 14's Match Reports 2004/5

01/09/04 Holmes Chapel 7 - 3 Bollington United

Bollington United Under 14's matched the East Cheshire League champions for an hour, but then tired as the hosts run in late goals for a 7-3 lead.  In a close first-half, Gary Chapman equalised for Bolly and after Holmes Chapel again took the lead, Ryan Foster headed home a Chapman cross for 2-2.

With ten minutes to go Holmes Chapel scored twice only for Gary Chapman to fire in a great left foot shot bringing Bolly back to 4-3.  But Bolly grew tired and let in 3 late goals to give a somewhat unfair final score-line.  Bolly can take heart from a great performance particularly from MOTM Dave Murphy.

05/09/04 Bollington United 6 - 6 Lisbon St. Anthony

Bollington United under-14s entertained Lisbon St Anthonys for a high-scoring friendly in which a draw was a fair result.  Aynsley Peach truned in a corner for Bolly and to give the hosts a 1-0 half-time lead.  Then MOTM Ryan Foster showed great finishing skills scoring a quick hat-trick to put Bolly into a commanding 4-1 lead.

But injuries to key players and some inspired substitutions by the visitors changed the game and Lisbon pulled ahead at 5-4.  Gary Chapman lashed home a great goal only for Lisbon to score again.  With time running out Gary Chapman won and converted a penalty to give the final score or 6-6.

08/09/04 Bollington United  0 - 2 Priory County

Bollington United under-14s put in a tremendous performance against their local rivals Priory County in a friendly encounter.  The sides were evenly matched throughout and it was hard to believe that the visitors are 2 divisions above Bollington.  Bolly had Tim Dalzell and Ben Hardy to thanks for goal-line clearances before Priory edged ahead 1-0 at half-time.

Both defences were on top in the second-half with Adam Young and Ethan Kavanagh-Eyres in fine form for Bolly.  With United pressing hard for an equaliser, the visitors broke to score a late second, but Bolly can go into the season with confidence after this fine team display.  Declan Stevenson was MOTM for a whole-hearted display as captain.

12/09/04 Chinley 2 - 4 Bollington United

Newly promoted Chinley gave Bollington a shock when they made an impressive start and took a 1-0 lead in the opening league game of the season.  In the second of ten minutes of injury time in the first half, Ben Hardy poked home after a corner to get Bolly back on level terms.  Leading scorer Gary Chapman rounded the keeper to score, then fired home a left-foot drive as Bolly began to dominate in the second half.  The hosts scored another good goal to keep the pressure on at 2-3, before Chapman beat the offside trap to complete his hat-trick in a 4-2 win for United.  Ben Hardy was voted MOTM by his team mates and they were other good performances from Josh Henshaw in goal, Ethan Kavanagh-Eyres at the heart of the defence and from James Wood who linked up well with Gary Chapman in attack.

19/09/04 Bollington United 6 - 6 Stockport Vikings

Bollington U14’s were denied a hard-earned victory by two late goals.  Bolly scorers were Ryan Foster, Lee Berry, James Wood and Gary Chapman with a hat-trick.  Jamie Gibson was MOTW for an outstanding performance at left-back.

26/09/04 South Manchester  4 - 5  Bollington United

Bolly battled it out with old rivals South Manchester in a nine goal thriller. Jack Walthall opened the scoring drilling a left foot shoot to beat the keeper high at the near post. South Manchester then equalised direct from a corner. Bolly regained the lead with a left foot drive from Gary Chapman before South Manchester again equalised within a minute. Adam Wilson then sent Gary Chapman through to give Bolly a 3-2 lead at half-time.

South Manchester equalised again before the goal-of-the-game was scored by Ryan Foster. Gary Chapman broke down the right and crossed. The ball was going slighly behind Ryan who swivelled and hit a cracking scissor kick volley high into the top corner. Even the referee applauded! Bolly then stretched the lead when a lovely chip from David Murphy sent Gary through to clinch his hat-trick. This goal was needed as South Manchester scored again three minutes from time. Bolly held on, however, for a deserved win.

03/10/04 Bollington United 7-2 Reddish Vulcans 'B'

Bollington U14's stages a remarkable second half comeback against promoted Reddish Vulcans 'B'.   Bolly trailed 2-1 at the break, but fired home 6 second half goals without reply to maintain their unbeaten start to the season.

Bolly started well and created the games early openings but were shocked when Vulcans took the lead.  Moments later, Ryan Foster's hopeful long range shot was fumbled into his own net by the visitor's keeper.  Vulcans regained the lead with a deflected shot and defended stoutly to lead at half-time.  But Bolly came out fighting in the second half and Gary Chapman scored two quick goals to put Bolly into a 3-2 lead.   Chapman completed his 4th hat-trick in 4 games with an unstoppable drive from 25 yards.  Bolly continued to press forward with Chapman scoring two more and man-of-the-match Dave Murphy opening his account for the season as Bolly deservedly won 7-2.  Hot-shot Chapman was applauded off the pitch by both sets of fans with 5 minutes to go and now has 14 goals in 4 league games.
