 Last visit 5th July

A more pleasant cooler day than those of the heat wave last week.

TFC's new Sea Fury now has the wings fitted in hangar 2. HAC appear to have moved into hangar 3 on a permanent basis. Their Spitfire V and Nimrod were in residence today. OFMC's Spitfire IX and Mustang were also at home in hangar 3. The Northside of Hangar 4 has now been completely re-arranged. The Varsity has moved in and all the other exhibits have been re-positioned (with much improved photography potential!) (As the theme for Hangar 4 is "The Air Defence of GB", I'm wondering which nose cone will be re-attached to the Varsity.... the 30mm cannon version or the A.I. radar version :-). In Hangar 5, the departure of the Varsity has enabled the new Eurofighter Typhoon to be moved out of the paint shop, presenting a more impressive viewing angle to visitors. The remains of the Mitsubishi Zero fuselage returned to Hangar 5 a few weeks ago.

On the field, Rapide G-AGJG and the Boeing Stearman recently in Hangar 3, were both performing circuits of the field, in addition to the regular Tiger Moths and several visiting light planes.

I had a narrow escape regarding the Waddington Air Display on Saturday...... Having perused the programme, my only pressing reason for attending was to have another chance to see and photograph the Vulcan performing. However, after a busy week rebuilding and re-roofing our garden shed (in spite of the heat wave) I decided late on Friday evening that a 6am Saturday departure and a days walk-about in the sun (and rain?) at Waddo. was not going to be a realistic prospect. Then on Saturday afternoon, I checked the PC for emails etc and discovered that the Vulcan contribution had been cancelled. Thank goodness I'd decided not to go!

"Flying Legends" is next weekend! (11th and 12th July).... fingers crossed for good weather!

I missed the Land Warfare Hall today and AirSpace plus the AAM are unchanged.... elsewhere you will find new pics below:
