Bobby Murdoch

THE LION SLEEPS TONIGHT

Bobby Murdoch, who suffered a stroke on Sunday evening, died on Tuesday morning (15th May) at 5.00 am in the Victoria Infirmary, Glasgow. Brian Quinn, Chairman of Celtic Football Club, said shortly after the announcement of Bobby's death," On behalf of everyone at Celtic Football Club, I would like to convey my most sincere condolences to Bobby Murdoch's wife and family on his death.
"Bobby was a great servant to the club both on and off the field. His achievements as a Lisbon Lion and as a Scottish Internationalist will ensure that he lives on forever in the hearts and minds of the Celtic family and football fans everywhere as one of the Celtic legends"
I think It would be a Fitting Honor to dedicate the Treble to Bobby's Memory & Always Keep alive the memory of that afternoon in Lisbon.
Hail , Hail Bobby Murdoch R.I.P.
HOW
THE EUROPEAN CUP WAS WON
VICTORY
COMPLETE
The
terraces erupted into a yelling, waving green-and-white Mass.
Hundreds leapt the six-foot wide moat round the pitch in a mass invasion.
Back in Scotland, thousands roared their joy in front of TV sets.
Celtic had won the European Cup. The famous Internazionale Milan had been beaten 2-1.
In an e-mail received today from the great Jim Craig he recalls the following............
34
years ago this Friday (25/5/1967), Bobby Murdoch was one of 11 fairly nervous
guys from the West of Scotland who came up a flight of steps into the Estadio
Nacional. Our task was to wrest the mantle of European football supremacy from
the Continent and bring it to Britain.
We managed to do that, of course, and all of us have been very honoured since then to live our lives as Lisbon Lions. On Friday, as you can expect, we all love to recall that occasion, although this year our thoughts will be tinged with sadness that one of our number is missing.
My
Own Personal Memories of this was of My Father setting Out To Go To the Match on
the Monday Night via The Old Belfast to Glasgow Boat He Meet up with his brother
in Law in Glasgow & flew to Lisbon on the Tuesday Night Even Further memories
come from me dodging Mass as the game was played on an Accession Thursday ,
& instead of attending 7pm mass I stayed in my pals house to watch the final
& sing Celtic songs.
