Welcome to the Havant and Hayling Bowmen official web site. We hope it will amuse you and inspire you to try our our sport. We welcome archers of all ages and all abilities and have qualified Archery Leaders to coach and advise members.

1. Venues

We are based near Havant, a small town close to Portsmouth in Hampshire, England. Our main shooting venue is Fort Purbrook which is situated in Peter Ashley Lane on top of Portsdown Hill, overlooking Portsmouth and the Isle of Wight. There are two shooting ranges at our disposal and we share these with another club the Purbrook Bowmen. Close ties are maintained between both clubs for archery and social events with a good rapport enjoyed by all.

We have access to shoot seven days a week all year round at the Fort. Our 'Club' nights are Wednesday evenings during the Summer and Indoor Thursday evening sduring the Winter. When we like to run informal leagues and we also meet for club shoots on Sunday mornings. Our coaching and beginners lessons are reserved for Monday evenings.

During the long hard Winter months, there is a crazy minority of us who shoot Frostbite rounds on Sundays, whilst the more sane members restrict their shooting to Thursday evenings at St Faiths Church Hall in Havant.

2. More than just an Archery Club

We pride ourselves in that, as well as being a friendly archery club, we also maintain a vibrant social side. Regular events are held such as quiz and skittle evenings, barbecues, day trips, dinners and many other sundry events throughout the year. We also have close ties with a local social club called the Carlton Club where we enjoy race evenings and other events.

3. Beginners

Beginners are always welcome in our club, where we hope to provide a friendly and informal atmosphere. Each summer we hold at least two courses for beginners each lasting six weeks. Club equipment is made available during these courses, and for those people who decide to join us, it can be used for the first few weeks of membership, until the archer has purchased his or her own. We have experienced archery leaders and will gladly advise on the best equipment to purchase so that it is suited to each individuals ability.
